Our skin is made up of fundamentally three layers: Epidermis, Dermis and just below that, is our Subcutaneous layer, which is generally composed of fat and connective tissues.
We gain weight when this layer stores excess fats. This layer functions as insulation for our body and will store extra fat to protect us from cold temperatures, cases of trauma or famine. However, when our body has too much fat, it will cause both health issues as well as make us feel tired; run down, and not attractive.
When we work out or exercise in some way, our muscles will burn fats in order to give us energy. When the fats are ‘burnt’, its size reduces and thus in the long run, we become slimmer.
Many people also try to reduce their food consumption when trying to lose weight. However, this simply causes the body to go into “starvation mode” and the food you do consume will turn into fat, as the body’s way of storing it as a reaction to getting fewer nutrients and calories. This is why many diets rarely work.
Moving around and getting exercise is a great way to lose unwanted weight. But many of us don’t have the time to go to a gym and wait in long lines for machines. Or we are simply too tired to exert the amount of energy needed to burn fat.
